Many locations in the UK have colleges which offer music courses for adults and young people. The courses are mainly residential, generally lasting for a weekend up to a couple of weeks.
The four venues shown below - Benslow Music, Jackdaws, Chetham's School of Music and Pro Corda - all provide courses at which students participate either individually or in an ensemble. The LeisureCourses web site provides links to numerous colleges around the country which offer courses both for instrumentalists and for people who wish to learn more about classical music generally.
CHETHAM'S SCHOOL OF MUSIC, MANCHESTER
Benslow Music offers friendly and supportive residential and day courses for non-professional musicians. Over 120 courses and lively talks are held throughout the year, led by expert tutors in classical, jazz, popular and folk music. Every level and age group is welcome, from near-beginner to advanced and from teens to guests in their nineties.

LEISTON ABBEY, SUFFOLK
For the last thirteen years, Chetham's International Piano Summer School has presented tutoring and masterclasses to people who have a serious interest in playing the piano. This year's course runs from 14-26 August 2014, and participants can attend for either both or just one of the weeks. Observers are also welcome.
The Pro Corda Trust was founded in 1969 and mainly provides young people with training in chamber music and ensemble playing. Although based in Suffolk, some courses are also held in Wiltshire, Kent and Cumbria. For the last ten years, Pro Corda has also held courses twice a year for adult amateur pianists.
The LeisureCourses web site lists around a dozen venues which provide music courses, from day or weekend courses to study breaks and summer schools. There is a wide variety of courses for musicians on most instruments, together with courses on music history, music appreciation and styles of music.
